Social Media May Have a Negative Health Impact

At the beginning of the 2000s, social media was something brand new and was used to socialize every once in a while. Now, social media is something that many people use extensively on a regular basis. Social media is a great way to connect with family, friends, and even with work.

If you are a marketer, you know that social media is necessary to find and connect with clients. Despite the good, social media can also have a dark side and it can affect your health. Here is how social media can have a negative effect.

Self-esteem can be decreased

Social media can cause self-esteem issues. Seeing photos of others who appear to be perfect and have perfect bodies can cause negative self-esteem problems in those who may have issues with their image, or their weight. Spending too much time comparing yourself to others on social media can be terrible for mental and emotional wellbeing. Be sure to understand that filters and Photoshop are used on social media. Also make it a point not use everyone's standards as your own image standards.

Financial health can be impacted

One of the many things that happen on social media is marketing. Everywhere on social media, you will be encouraged to buy items. If you spend your time trying to keep up with the Joneses on social media, you may find yourself over spending or even applying for mortgages at because you saw someone else with a home.

Poor finances and overspending can also cause major stress, which will decrease your health immensely. Make sure you keep your life in perspective and understand that social media can often be smoke and mirrors by others attempting to improve their image.

Trying over the counter medications

If you scroll through social media, you will find advertisements for everything you can think of. This includes over the counter medication. These medications are advertised for things such as weight loss and hair growth. While they may seem to be harmless and a good idea, you should not take over the counter medications.

One of the most prevalent over the counter items is Senna tea that is branded as weight loss tea online. This kind of tea can cause stomach and intestine issues. You should seek out the advice of a doctor before taking any medications online.

Social media addiction

Everyone, from preteen to those who are middle age, can experience social media addiction. Some people cannot go more than a few minutes without checking their social media pages, or posting on them. Becoming addicted to social media and spending long days and nights keeping up with social media pages can affect your sleep.

This will begin to affect your health and affect how you operate in real life. Be sure to limit your amount of time on social media. If you find yourself becoming addicted, unplug and give yourself specific time slots for social media.
